SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY PRACTICES

The research project “Research and development of community-based creative industrial services and energy-efficient gentle technologies” is carried out at Eötvös Loránd University.

IDENTIFYING THE SOCIAL PROBLEM

In disadvantaged settlements, where people struggling with un- or underpaid employment, they often feel worthless and do not realize what extraordinary resources they have. The gentle traditional folk architecture technologies, which fit into the surrounding landscape and community, are part of our culture, but most of them – unfortunately – are often forgotten. An important task is the assessment of individual competences, the spiritual cultural traditions of communities and potential innovations and traditions; and the awareness, recognition and mobilization of sustainability, which can result self-help projects by strengthening values. The cultural and creative sector connects the areas of identity-strengthening traditions, art, culture and economy and modern technology. As a result of our research (interviews, focus group discussions and workshops) a “Community Practices Knowledge Base” will be created, in which 65 good practices and community examples are described as part of the methodological guide.

THE EXPECTED SOCIAL/ECONOMIC/ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF THE RESEARCH

This research and development could be useful to self-governments, museums, libraries, public cultural and community houses, civic experts, researchers; furthermore, it could help the expert’s work on these specific fields. We collect domestic and international community-based services – good practices – for the colleagues of self-governments, museums, libraries, public cultural and community houses to encourage them to implement something similar. The “Community Practices Knowledge Base” contains adaptable good practices.
